What Is The  Link Between Talcum Powder and Ovarian Cancer?

Talcum powder is made from talc. Talcum  powder has been used by women  for years  on  private areas. Johnson & Johnson has marketed  Shower-to-Shower body powder to women with the slogan: “Just a sprinkle a day helps keep odor away.” Did you dust your  private area  or their sanitary napkins with talcum powder?

Can Talcum  Powder  Cause Ovarian Cancer?

It is now known that the Talcum Powder particles can travel to the ovaries and sit there for years causing irritation and inflammation. Lawsuits are being filed for diagnosis of ovarian cancer from talcum powder. Particles (applied to the genital area or on sanitary napkins, diaphragms, or condoms) travel through the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes moving to the ovaries. where they can remain foryears. This can result in ovarian cancer. Particles of talc have been found in biopsy of the ovaries.

They Knew It As Early As 1971

In 1971, scientists concluded there was a possible connection between the dusting of female genitals with talcum powder and ovarian cancer. They advised that talc particles entered a woman’s reproductive tract through the vagina and traveled through the cervix into the uterus, then moved through the fallopian tubes to the ovaries. The Lancelet journal reported that  a majority of ovarian tumors had particles of talc deeply embedded in them. Ovarian cancer often goes undetected until it has spread to the pelvis and stomach. At this late stage, ovarian cancer is more difficult to treat and can be fatal.

That study was followed by another published in 1982 in the journal Cancer, which provided supporting research linking the powder and ovarian cancer. Since then, more than 20 studies showed similar cause-effect relationships.

The Proof Is Out In The Open

The World Health Organization and the International Agency for Research have issued warnings about the  using   talcum powder in the genital area and the potential for  developing  cancer.

Talcum Powder Lawyers Win  Lawsuit

Johnson & Johnson paid $72 million  to the family of a woman whose death from ovarian cancer was linked to her use of  talc-based Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower for years.
The Talcum Powder lawsuit claimed that Johnson & Johnson knew of this link between the talc in its powder products and ovarian cancer, but failed to warn consumers about this danger for decades. The woman whose family filed this product liability case against Johnson & Johnson had used the powders for feminine hygiene for more than 30 years but wasn’t diagnosed with ovarian cancer until three years ago. She died at age 62.
